This is the finished piece. I used a fifth fabric in the hat and scarf because I needed something with three values very close together. I am very happy with the results.
Since I have done portraits before I took a little artistic license and added a bit of hair here and a bit there. I felt doing this gave a bit more definition to the hair. I also added the little strip of dark to the left side of her lower lip giving the lip more definition.
Wow -- you did a terrific job! I bet Aubrey and her parents will love it. Reading your blog, I think you hit on a key factor in a successful portrait: you really do need a photo with lots of contrast. It makes a huge difference when there are very light and very dark values on the facial skin. It adds so much more depth to the finished portrait. You've definitely mastered the technique. I can't wait to see what you make next. I hope you keep me posted because I love to see portraits. Making these quick little portraits is addictive, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteMarilyn, this is just beautiful! What a great interpretation of the photograph, and what a big improvement from your first effort. Now I'm inspired to try my own hand at Maria's techniques.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely great! I think I'm going to have to get the DVD!
ReplyDeleteWow! That looks amazing! Keep going as you have made huge strides from first to second piece!
ReplyDeleteI love it! Maria's DVD must have excellent instructions and you were a good student. I like the way you used that print for the scarf and hat, too. It is perfect!
ReplyDeleteYour granddaughter is precious. Your finished face is a major endorsement for Maria's DVD as it looks inspired. Now, I'd love to do one of my granddaughter.
ReplyDeleteThanks you all for your comments. It is FUN!
