Cherokee Powwow at Haygood Mill, Picken, SC

One last post about the Haygood Mill in Pickens, SC. This is a photo of Haygood Mill. Every third Saturday they grind grain. I buy corn meal and Whole Wheat flour. The miller doesn't grind a lot of the whole wheat flour because they don't have a way to keep it without refrigeration. I always buy a couple 2 lb. bags and refrigerate them.

This is the recipe on the back of the sack. It is yummy.

Wheat Graham Bread

2 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
pinch of salt
1 egg
1 cup buttermilk
2 tbs. Canola oil
1 teas vanilla

I add: 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/4 cup nuts
1/2 c Craisens (soaked)

mix dry ingredients. Add remaining ingredients, Mix lightly. Put into greased and floured loaf pan. Bake in 350 degree oven for 40 to 50 minutes
Yields: 15 to 20 slices.
I used three small loaf pans
ENJOY!
