Lake and Mountain Quilt Show and Other Quilt Happenings in Seneca, SC

On Sept. 17-18 Lake and Mountain Quilt Guild will sponsor a quilt show to be held at The Shaver Recreation Center, 698 W. South 4th. Street in Seneca, SC. This show is held every other year. There will be over 200 quilts hanging that have been made by our members. Other exhibits to be hung during this show include a challenge called "Get Wild with Fabric", projects that have been made in day bee classes, and a silent auction. A boutique stocked by members will have quilt related items for sale as well. And, of course, we will have wonderful vendors.

The quilt shown above is the guilds opportunity quilt. Tickets will be on sale up to the drawing that takes place on Saturday.

Several years ago, Jenny Grobusky took on the project of making a quilt to cover a PT Cruiser. Many of our members gave Jenny UFO blocks that she turned into a wonderful quilted car. I will post photos of the car after it is set up again for the show.

The city of Seneca has been so supportive to our guild show by way of grants but they have also taken on our passion for fiber art. Two of the Galleries in Seneca, The Arts Co. and The Loft have asked fiber artist to put together exhibits for both galleries.

At the Arts Co. a show titled "Quilted Wood Works" will be honoring its owner, Warren Carpenter . Two fiber art groups, Focus and the Thread Heads will be presenting this exhibit.

At The Loft, High Fiber Art Group will present "Limitless Imagination". This group, started a little over a year ago has their meetings at The Loft. During the past year they have been working from a quilt workbook experimenting with different techniques. The exhibit will be the results of these experiments.

BRAC or the Blue Ridge Arts Council will present an exhibit entitled "Fabric Fantasy". This exhibit was curated by me (Marilyn Wall) and features many nationally known art quilters such as Patsy Thompson, Mary Stori and Judy Simmons. Several wonderful artist from Georgia and some members of our very own quilt guild will also be featured.

We are hanging a show at the Lunny House Museum of heirloom quilts from the late 19th century to the early 20th century. (211 W. South 1st. St., Seneca, SC) You may also tour this newly renovated Arts and Craft Home.

At the local Seneca Women's Club, AKA The Historic Ballenger House, 212 East South Third St, Seneca, SC, an exhibit of art and traditional quilts will be on display all made by members of LMQG. Some of these quilts will be for sale.

On historic Ram Cat Alley, in downtown Seneca, quilts will take over the displays in gift and antique shops. Applewood Shopping Center will also feature quilts in their display.

Quite a weekend for the quilt lover. The Arts Co. exhibit will be up until the end of Oct. while The Loft and BRAC will show their exhibit for three months. Down-Town-Go-Round a wonderful night of browsing the downtown shops and galleries in Seneca will begin at 5:30 Friday evening Sept. 17. Light snacks, wine and music add to the event.

Hope to see some of you there. I will add more photos as the events open.

Almost forgot the official Oconee County Quilt Trail will makes it debut that weekend as well. See the article below from the Daily Journal newspaper.
