After I tried boarders around this piece I noticed that this created enclosed sections. There was one little section that was empty. Even through I know the rule of odds, I decided to add a smaller cut out in that space to see if I liked the effect. I can't decide, perhaps it needs that empty space. What do you think?
I think the empty space balances the composition - the tops of each of your spaces are bare and this corner reflects that.
ReplyDeleteFor me, adding the small shadows alters the piece to the extent that it reminds me of birds rather than shadows. I'm sorry I hope that isn't being rude; it's just the way it seems to me.
I like using organza etc bonded to other fabrics and it's interesting to see how you have used this, particularly with the background fabric showing through in this case
This is probably different seeing it in person, but since the color variation between the sash and the sections is so different, the shadows in the lower corner helped me see the composition more clearly. Is there something else you could put there, or could you use a slightly different color or pattern in that block? I like the piece very much. The shadows are interesting and evocative, especially since it's a couple. It suggests age, mental decline, and a lifetime of support and love to me. I think the angle of the figures helps with those themes for me, too.
