High Fiber Meeting

High Fiber Art Group is experimenting each month with a different type of embellishment. This month the experiment was painted web. Take a look at all the great things that came out of this experiment. I was unable to attend the meeting since I was on the road teaching. Barbara S. took great notes and photos for me to use on this post. Any mistakes are mine and not Barbara's.

High Fiber Meeting

Barbara S. used this art quilt to kill two birds with one stone. Barbara belongs to the Pomegranate Guild of Judic Needleworkers. There challenge was to create a piece of art in their own medium about bad girls of the bible with a humorous approach. Barbara chose Sarah. The label is below.

Sandy used her web experiment in this interesting bird quilt

High Fiber Meeting

Donna used her painted web piece in a landscape. She used watered down latex Paint on her web, and found that it was very thick and covered the fusible so much that it would not fuse to the fabric. She covered it with a glaze that had a silvery sheen.

High Fiber Meeting

Diane has decided to use an apple as her motif for the experiments our group is doing. Diane used a Styrofoam plate to make the stamp for her apple. She then painted the leaves.

Bonnie O. decided to go to her book shelf and randomly pick a book to work out of. The book was about landscapes. In this piece Bonnie cut a picture of a cottage out of a magazine and Mod Podged it to her fabric. Bonnie used beads and large stitches to embellish the top.

High Fiber Meeting

This piece is titled "The Pencil". Marge E. has been reading a book titled "The Pencil" this book tells all about making pencils. Marge found it fascinating and has decided that she will use the pencil as her subject for our embellishment projects. In this piece she used a potato to make a stamp for the swirly pencils.

J C Campbell Folk School

This sign welcomes all who come to the school. The following photographs only nick the ice burg. There are so many great places to photograph old and new. The natural environment of Campbell is also hard to beat, lady slippers were in bloom when we were there in May. I don't have the words to express what this school means to so many people.

I hope you enjoy my photographs and I hope to have more to add after I teach again in September.

This is the interior of the fiber studio. Lots of windows a table for each person plus several for the teacher. A great learning environment.

I'm having another one of those problems that happen on my blog every once in a while where I can't post photos. I'll try again tomorrow.

My Assistant Ann's Grandson Jack

Ann was a great assistant. She presented an element that I was not strong in and it proved to be a good combination.

During her down time and in the evening, Ann worked on this monochromatic portrait of her youngest grandson. Great job Ann.

Students Work

Poppy by Betty. Several students decided to make two tops instead of working on one piece. Betty and Denise finished two flowers. None of them are on the background fabric they will be using. The background fabric will change the whole look. Lynn was able to start a water lily using some beautiful silk fabric that she had dyed. I can't wait to see it finished.

Fiber Art at J C Campbell Folk School

This was our home-away-from-home at Campbell School. Nine students, myself and my assistant, Ann H. often spent from nine in the morning until nine at night learning and teaching . The environment at Campbell is second to none for this learning and teaching experience. Below find eight of my students and their work. Denise had to leave on Thursday night and I do not have a photo of her with her work. I will post tomorrow the works individually so you can get a better look at each piece. Denise's will be in that posting. Please go to later post as they will not all show on the front page.

This is Berry Ann another of our Ann's. You'll understand as you read the earlier post. She brought a Polaroid photo that had been manipulated during development and she wanted to render it in fabric. Well, we strayed a little from the original idea but she was happy with the results.

Betty was able to create two tops during class. The first one was a Calla Lily. While working on the Calla Lily, Betty had to go out for a walk to get ride of some frustration. She came back with renewed vigor and finish this beautiful rendition. The Poppy's not bad either!

Janet, lives in Florida in the Winter and had taken a photo of a Bird of Paradise. The area she lives in had a Bird of Paradise with a blue bloom. She has captured the vibrancy of this flower beautifully.

There were three Ann's in this class. We remedied this by calling them by the name of their flower with Ann attached. This is Iris Ann! This iris is a pass-a-long plant from her Mother. What a beautiful way to remember her Mother.

Marge has this beautiful pink flower in her garden in Florida. It was there when she moved and no one seems to know what it's named. Marge and her husband used to own a B & B in Florida and it was obvious that she would have been a wonderful hostess. Very out going and fun. She was very timid about working on an art quilt but it turned out beautifully.

Sorry Alice, I almost didn't get you in the photo. Alice was inspired to do the Bird of Paradise from an old print. This bird took a lot of work. Alice knew what she wanted to do with this wall hanging when she came and she was well prepared with ribbons, wire, etc. It took her almost one day to make those tail feathers out of ribbon and wire.

Student's work from J C Campbell

The photograph Trish used to inspire this piece was also taken by her husband. We had a lot of fun with this piece, it was the only landscape being produced in this class. Trish took a personal interest in each turtle and named them all. We had a preschool group come through on a tour. They loved the turtles.

Lynn, fashioned her fish from a photo her husband took during a visit to a local aquarium.

J C Campbell Folk School Closing Program

A group shot of me and my students at J C Campbell Folk School. I'm starting at the end of my week at Campbell and will go backward to the beginning. This was perhaps the best all-around class I have taught.

My laptop computer is having a new hard drive installed and it is difficult for me to use our desk top so I am going to post over the next week. I have lots to show you from my class plus lots from the Campbell Campus.

All of these photos need to be clicked on to see the beautiful work done by these students.

My laptop computer is down and it has all my stored photos and information. I had hopped to post from J C Campbell next week but that doesn't look like a possibility now. Stay tuned and don't give up.

Lake and Mountain Quilt Guild Show and Tell

I can always count on having lots of photos to post after a guild meeting. Our group is so prolific that I can't possibly post them all. Below are just a few. Tomorrow I will post about our program given by Marge Edie.

LMQG show and tell

Sandy loves color. She even wore a shirt to match her quilt. Color is one of the first things I notice in a quilt. If I don't particularly care for a color, the quilt or art work doesn't grab me. Sandy's quilt always grab me.

LMQG Show and Tell

The is Heidi's favorite pattern. She loves color as I do.
