The Stripper Continued

Does this look like an hour and a half's work?  Well, that's how long it took me to thread paint this little caterpillar.

A close-up of the thread painting.

I will be with my daughter this coming week but hope to get more work done on The Stripper.  Stay tuned.

More on The Stripper

I've finally had time to get back to The Stripper.  I finished cutting and fusing part four of the stripper today.  There are lots of little tiny white dots that are cut one at a time.  It was time to get the tweezers out.

I also had enough time to start thread painting part one.

I have a meeting tomorrow so don't know if I will have time to get back in the studio tomorrow.  I am really ready to get into the thread painting.  I'm enjoying that part very much.  More later.

SAQA Auction Piece

In March I had the pleasure of taking a three day painting with dyes class from Hollis Chatelain.  We were to wash the fabric  after it cured for 24 hrs.  This was to remove the remaining dyes out of the fabric.  I was quite happy with my piece before I washed it but it lost way to much color for me to be happy with the finished piece.  I really wanted to salvage the piece and while looking at the photos I took of my work before I washed it I came up with the idea to print it on my Epson printer.  Worked like a charm.  I've been working on the quilting for two days and it is finally finished.  I will send this into SAQA for their annual auction.

More Open Studio Photos

I was in NC last week visiting both our daughter and Mother-In-Law.  Neither has WiFi so it's really hard for me to post.  I want to show you some of the photos I took at Open studio week-end before last.  We're home again for a few weeks and I'm continuing work on The Stripper and thread painting a floral piece for the SAQA auction.  So as soon as I have time, I will post on those projects.

A My portrait titled love hangs over the bookcase that holds some of my small pieces.
Through My Window hangs beside the bed.  Robin Anne Cooper made the quilt out of recycled jeans.

Stan hung some of my pieces on the wall.   The scarfs are hand dyed silk.

Another view of my quilts with some of Stan's pottery in the foreground.

There was a steady stream of people all day Saturday and Sunday.

Robin hung some of the fiber pieces she made on a clothes line.  Some of Stan's birdhouses are in the background.

End of the Road Studios

This weekend I will be guest artist at the End of the Road Studios.  I blogged about the open studios in my last post but tonight I'm going to show you lots of photos of the End of the Road Studios.  Even if you don't find anything to buy you have to see this studio, it's incredible.

This is the studio of Stan DuBose and his wife Robin Anne Cooper

OPEN STUDIO FOR FULL MOON ARTIST

I am the guest artist at The End of the Road Studio May 5 & 6.   Stand DuBose and Robin Anne Cooper asked me to be their guest artist for this studio tour.   Join me as I tell you a little about each artist who will be featured this week-end.   Later this week will I will be blogging about Robin and Stan's really neat studio.

The Full Moon Artists are once again opening their 4 studios to the public in order to showcase their new work, demonstrate the basics, introduce visiting artists in a variety of media and create community awareness and art appreciation.

The studio tour is to be held May 5th and 6th from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm both days.
The four studios are located within 5 miles of each other in Seneca, Walhalla and West Union.

In addition to their own work, each studio is hosting one or more guest artists.  There is certainly something for everyone to see from painting, sculpture, pottery, woodturning, quilting, felting and more...

The four studios are home to 6 artists:
Mike and Cindy Hart own and operate hArtworks Stoneware. 185 Dogwood Hills, West Union SC
This is a mid-range functional pottery studio with produces work with a botanical theme.  It is located on a gentleman's farm with a variety of small farm animals.

Helga Sutt, Mary Shobe and June Shobe will be guest artists.  Helga is a weaver and felter, who specializes in Nuno felting.  Her use of color and texture is absolutely stunning.
Mary Shobe creates beautiful scratchboard artwork of wildlife. Scratchboard is an etching technique which combine.

Robin Anne Cooper and Stan DuBose own The End of the Road Studios.

255 East Bear Swamp Rd. Walhalla 29691 864-506-6116

The two artists combined studios in a single building that alone is worth seeing, with pennies on the floor and doors on the ceiling.

Robin Anne's sophisticated folk art painted canvas collages always use bright crisp colors. Her signature style has made her a highly sought after and nationally collected folk artist.

Stan's passion for clay is evident in the way he shapes it, from vases, platters, ikebana's, and leaves to his distinctive fish plates and incredibly detailed carved birds on found objects.

Stan and Robin will be hosting Doug McAbee & Marilyn Wall. Doug is a wildly creative sculptor and educator at Lander University. Marilyn is a cutting edge quilter whose work is shown nationally, her attention to detail and amazing pieces make her an award-winning artist.

Chris Troy is located at 210 Crestview Ct. Seneca 29672   864-985-1096

Chris works in midrange stoneware and creates beautifully strong forms and shapes.  She sees herself as a handler of clay, one who is a partner in the passage of the clay through its life stages. Her highly functional pieces combine hand built elements with wheel thrown and slab built forms.  Chris has been working with some new clay and creating new glazes that accentuate her highly textured surfaces.

Chris's guest artist will be Deana Baker. Deana is a native of South Carolina and has over 30 years' experience as a visual artist. She enjoys exploring the state's diversified regions like the coastal Sea Islands and foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains to create landscapes. Her artwork can be seen in homes, businesses, and public spaces throughout the southeast
